Summit 2010 Program

A final program, with all workshops and streams listed, is available here.

Summit structure

The Summit will provide a space for groups to link up with other like-minded groups and organise around shared goals and objectives. The structure ensures that the Summit is open, participatory, respectful of diversity, and utilises the grassroots network as a vehicle for communication and collaboration.

Campaign streams: In the 2010 Summit there will be campaign streams derived from proposals from the movement. These campaign streams have four sessions across Saturday and Sunday, and are intended to provide a space for people from across the country who are interested in collaborating on national campaigns to meet, plan goals and tactics for the campaign and develop skills.

The three campaign streams report back at the end of both Saturday and Sunday, and can make proposals about national actions and/or demands to be endorsed by the summit.  Campaign stream organisers will also meet throughout the Summit to discuss how to synthesise campaigns.

Network stream: The Network stream met throughout the 2009 Climate Action Summit and continued to work throughout the year on a proposal for a formal network of grassroots climate groups. The purpose of the network is to support Climate Action Groups by enhancing national communication between groups. In December 2009 the network proposal was endorsed by over 100 groups. The purpose of this stream is to make amendments to the current proposal and provide information on the functioning of the network structure..

Information plenaries: International and national speakers will address the whole Summit. Each plenary will include an opportunity for questions and discussion from the floor.

Decision making plenary: A final session on Sunday night for campaign streams to have action proposals endorsed by the Summit.

Issues and politics: A panel discussion on topics such as alternatives to the CPRS, climate science, agricultural emissions, climate justice and population.

Skills workshops: These will include non violent direct action, media, lobbying and building and maintaining a Climate Action Group (CAG). The final day of the Summit (Monday 15 March) is strongly focussed on skills development.

Issues workshops: An opportunity for an in depth discussion in an informal setting, with the possibility of future collaboration between participants.

Open space: A chance for conference participants to nominate workshops they want to run.
