Accommodation & Travel

BILLETS

Do you live in Melbourne and have a spare couch or bed? To keep costs low for participants we have setup a billeting program. If you are happy to host one or more people for the 3 days of the conference please use the BILLET OFFER email link below to make your offer. If you would like to be billeted use the BILLET REQUEST email and let us know which nights you need accommodation.

If you can billet one or more people email this BILLET OFFER.
If you would like to be billetted email this BILLET REQUEST.
BILLET OFFERs will put in contact with BILLET REQUESTs.
It will then be left to you to finalise the details.
Please use this BILLET FINALISED email to let us know when a billet has been finalised.

NOTE
Some people find that the links above do not work with their email program.
If this is the case with you, send an email to climate.summit.2011@gmail.com
with the subject BILLET OFFER, BILLET REQUEST or BILLET FINALISED,
and include your NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE, EMAIL and any COMMENTS
relevant to the OFFER, REQUEST or FINALISING of the BILLET.

HOTELS, MOTELS, BACKPACKERS near the SUMMIT

If you CLICK ON THIS LINK you will see a map of the area.
On the map the green arrow points to 198 Berkeley St, Carlton.
Within walking distance of the green arrow there are dozens of places offering accommodation.
Each pink spot on the map marks one of the places where you can stay.
Clicking on any pink spot will display the address, phone, website, etc. of the hotel, motel, or backpackers.
Pink spots that also have a pink pin marker with a letter, A, B, C. . . etc. are advertisements for the place.

CARBON NEUTRAL HOTEL

The Alto Hotel at 636 Bourke Street (near Southern Cross Station) is Australia’s first carbon neutral hotel.
It is a luxury 4 star hotel, about 20 minutes on the tram from where the Summit is being held.
However if you can afford giving yourself a real accommodation treat then we recommend it.

TRAVEL GRANTS

The Summit Organisers and the Community Climate Network have attempted to make the Climate Summit as accessible as possible. We have worked to ensure the registration fee is kept low, the food provided is optional and affordable, and billeting will be provided during the conference for those who require it.

The Summit Committee will also be providing limited travel grants to enthusiastic people who would like to attend the Climate Summit in Melbourne on 9-11 April 2011 but cannot afford to travel to Melbourne. Preference will be given to those who are active in their local Climate Action group, who will need to travel a considerable distance, and who are most deserving in terms of financial need. If there are more applicants than places, the Committee will allocate grants according to these criteria.

If you would like to apply for a travel grant, please send your name and contact details, along with a brief statement outlining why you are applying, to the Summit Organisers by Thursday March 31st at the latest.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Melbourne is well serviced by public transport. To get around use this BOOKLET from MetLink. You can obtain a free copy at the MetShop on the corner of Swanston and Little Collins Streets in the city. The shop is open 9.00-5.30 Monday-Friday and 9.00-1.00 on Saturday. The red arrow in the image below has been added to the map on page 34 and points to where the Summit will be held. Numerous tram/bus routes pass nearby.
