The Community Climate Action Summit is organised by the National Community Climate Network – a network of over 100 climate action groups across Australia.
Tens of thousands of ordinary and not so ordinary Australians are members of local climate action groups who work together to advocate for urgent action on climate change:
- to raise awareness in the community about the risks posed by global warming;
- lobbying politicians and decision-makers for effective public policy responses; and
- working to together to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in their own communities to reduce climate risk and create safer, healthier communities.
The Community Climate Action Summit has been held every year since 2009. In 2009 and 2010 it was held in Canberra at Australian National University. In 2011 the conference was held at Melbourne University in conjunction with the Melbourne Sustainable Societies Institute.
The 2012 Summit is being held at the University of Western Sydney, Parramatta, on April 28-29.
